Meeting Sarah J. Maas (!!!!)
I had to race through streets just to get to this event straight from class, but I can't think of anything else that would've been more worth it. There's something so surreal about being in the same room as one of your favorite authors, hearing them speak about characters that are so real to you, listening to how they crafted one of your favorite stories.
For anyone that knows me, it's no secret that I'm a huge Sarah J. Maas fan. One of my best friends managed to score last minute tickets to get us into the event. When I walked in, the pitch black theater was filled to the brim with adoring fans. Sarah was onstage with the moderator, talking about her books, and sharing personal anecdotes of her life (like stories about her dog, husband, and her obsession with Lord of the Rings - mainly Legolas). As the event went on, Sarah teased news about the third ACOTAR book, the next TOG book, the movie for ACOTAR, and the Hulu TV show for TOG. It was almost too much to take in at once.
When the time came for us to finally meet her, I was practically shaking with excitement. Of course, when I was face to face with her, I could barely utter a word. I couldn't manage to say what I wanted to say: I wanted to thank her for creating a beautiful world with such empowering female characters. Instead, I just said, "I don't know what to say, but thank you for writing these books; I love them," which pales in comparison when you are in a room of at least a hundred people who love her books just as much as you do.
Honestly, it doesn't even matter, because being in the same room as Sarah was enough of a gift in itself, and it goes without saying how incredibly excited I am for her next books.
