Finding Your Reflection: Popular Culture

I am a staunch supporter of the power of representation, and as a Indian growing up in America - like many other communities - I've felt woefully underrepresented. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite South Asians who I've seen in the public eye. These are not all of the famous South Asians, by any means, but some of my personal favorites.

Finding Your Reflection: Brown Beauty

Part 1 of 3 part series: Finding Your Reflection, in which I list things I have learned over the years as a South Asian woman. In this post, I detail my favorite beauty products, and which brands tend to accommodate women of color.

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

My first stop in Europe was none other than Amsterdam, which is easily one of the most picturesque places I've ever been to. Check out the pictures of our trip here, and stay tuned for more pictures from my month-long Europe trip.

Summer Book Haul

Some of these books I've already had the chance to read, others are books I'm rereading, and the last books are the ones I'm eagerly awaiting to read. If you've read any of them, let me know your thoughts on them!

Book Thoughts: Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi

In a surprising addition to the Shatter Me series, Mafi picks up the universe almost exactly where she left off. Though I tore through this book and finished it on the day of its release, it took a while for me to collect my thoughts on the story. I have mixed feelings about this book, and I'm still not sure if I've fully reconciled them.

Book Thoughts: A Torch Against the Night

Despite my hesitation, I was still intrigued at the prospect of a sequel. When I was debating reading A Torch Against the Night anyway, a Barnes & Noble employee told me, "I love that series. That world is my favorite!" Deciding it was worth a try, I purchased the novel. It did not disappoint.

A Quick Trip to India

I wish I had been able to see how a true version of India portrayed in the media, a country filled with too many people and all of their stories, people who aren't afraid to drive into oncoming traffic without batting an eyelash. So here is a little of my own representation: snapshots from rural India to some of the cities.

Lord of the Rings and a Quiet Nostalgia

Sometimes I think there's magic in re-recognizing the familiar. It happens when when you pick up an old favorite book, or hear a melody on the radio - and it sings to your heart, a tune you have memorized inside and out, like when you realize that you still remember all the worlds to your old favorite song from a decade ago.

A New York Photo Diary

This summer, I was lucky enough to be able to live and work in New York City, which has always been a dream of mine, and here are some pictures of my day-to-day outings.
