Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Premiere
It's undeniable that everything J.K. Rowling touches becomes magic, and while waiting for the premiere to start, I've never been so sure of that in my entire life.
Despite my aching feet and the looming clouds, the air around the red carpet was rampant with tension: fans clustered around pens, waiting for the stars to arrive. Everyone waiting seemed to be around my age, all in their twenties. As a security guard pointed out while we all waited, we are the generation that grew up with Harry Potter.
The entire night was a blur, so it's hard to even recall what happened, but there are some things that I know I will never forget, like J.K. Rowling herself walking within a foot away from me, and everyone around me calling out "Thank you!", because really, what else could you say to her?
Earlier, journalists walked around, asking various fans about their experiences at the premiere and who they were most excited for. My friends and I were lucky enough to be interviewed, and we even made it onto BBC Newsround. Unsurprisingly, when each journalist asked who we were most excited for, every fan answered, "J.K. Rowling, of course."
My spot was at the front, across from the press, which meant that I was lucky enough to meet many of the cast members, such as Eddie Redmayne (who I had a short conversation with, and by that I mean I told him that he was so talented and he thanked me), Jenn Murray (Chastity), Gemma Chan (Madam Ya Zhou), Carmen Ejogo (Seraphina Picquery), and David Heyman (producer).
I also got to see other big names, both involved the film and not: David Yates stopped to talk to fans (of course, turning around right before he got to me), along with other cast members such as Dan Fogler (Kowalski), Katherine Waterston (Tina), Alison Sudol (Queenie), and Ezra Miller (Credence). Not going to lie, I was absolutely heartbroken that I didn't get the chance to meet Ezra or have a conversation with him, but he took so much of his time to properly meet as many fans as he could, which is impossible to resent.
Speaking of heartbreak, Maisie Williams also attended the premiere, and stopped signing and talking to fans a foot away from me, though she did wave. Part of me is convinced that she, Sophie Turner, and I should be best friends. Though, just as you would expect, Maisie is even more beautiful in real life, and I'm so thankful I got the chance to see her.
I was also lucky enough to meet the boys from Cursed Child again. They, much like Maisie, don't know that we're destined to be friends, but were kind enough to stop for a picture. Anthony Boyle (Scorpius), was excited to take a picture with me and my friends, and the result was pure gold.
A couple seconds after meeting Anthony again, I spotted Sam Clemmett (Albus), and called him over, who was kind enough to take a picture too. Both the boys were really nice and accommodating, along with various members of the Cursed Child cast that I also saw walking the red carpet.
By the end of the star-studded night, with my feet aching and slightly drenched hair, my friends and I headed home after making new acquaintances, slightly shocked at all that had happened. I will never be able to comprehend that J.K. Rowling is real, despite the fact that she singlehandedly molded my childhood and stood in front of me. I got to see everyone from Tom Fletcher and some other members of McFly, to various Youtubers, to members of the cast, to actual queen Rowling herself, and I know that there will always be some part of me that will forever remain a child and never, ever, leave the world of Harry Potter behind.
The pictures above are taken by me, my flatmate Katelyn, and a new friend from the premiere, Bethany.
